Laura's Marvelous Meatballs

MyCookbook Recipe Database
MyCookbook Member: Cameo
Recipe Category: Beef
Recipe Preparation Level: moderate
1 Package M&M Italian Style Meatballs (3 lbs.)

    2 tbsp. butter

    1 onion grated

    3 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups beef broth (either canned or cubes, both work)

    2 tbsp. chili powder

    4 tbsp. brown sugar

    4 tbsp. vinegar

    4 tbsp. Worchestershire sauce

    1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup apple sauce (preferably sweetened)

    salt to taste

In 9 x 13 baking dish arrange M&M meatballs in a single layer. Roast in a 350 oven for approximately an hour.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a medium saucepan and cook onion and garlic until soft. Add beef broth and remaining ingredients. Stir well until mixed. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes stirring frequently. Add salt if necessary.

When meatballs have roasted for one hour, pour all of the BBQ sauce over them, reduce oven to 200 and roast for another 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serve over steamed white rice if desired.

They are good freshly made, but as with most BBQ sauces, they tend to taste 100 times better the next day rewarmed in the microwave.

They are best using this long roasting method, however, they are very good if you roast the meatballs for an hour, cover with the sauce. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning place in slow cooker and set at low.
